A versatile musician, he also plays guitar and harmonica, adding authenticity and energy to every performance. His stage presence, musicianship, and passion for the music help create an unforgettable tribute to one of rock's most iconic artists.

PAUL COMBS

LEAD GUITAR

Paul is the lead guitarist for GREAT WIDE OPEN PETTY TRIBUTE, and he knows how to light up a stage. With years of experience behind him, Paul has fronted classic national rock and country acts like Three Dog Night, The Box Tops, Molly Hatchet, Steve Wariner, Sweethearts of the Rodeo, and The Grassroots.

He’s played in other top cover bands and tribute bands too, including Motown groups, which just adds to his versatility. No matter the style, Paul brings feel, fire, and authenticity to every performance.

Whether he’s ripping into a Mike Campbell solo, or laying down smooth rhythm lines, Paul’s the kind of guitarist who makes it all look effortless—and sound amazing. Always in the pocket, always in the moment.

MARK ETSCHEIDT

BASS GUITAR & VOCALS

Mark began playing in bands at age 13, launching a lifelong love of music. After attending the University of Northern Iowa, his early group evolved into an eight-piece horn band that performed throughout the Midwest, later streamlining into a four-piece classic rock vocal group.

He played professionally for 18 years before stepping away to earn a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Mark then served 31½ years at the University of Kentucky as a Clinical Psychologist and Professor of Anesthesiology. After retiring from academia, he returned to music and helped co-found the band ROARSHOCK. Later, he joined an evolving tribute band called GREAT WIDE OPEN PETTY TRIBUTE.

Mark brings expressive, solid bass playing and strong vocal harmonies to the group, helping to capture the heart of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers classic sound.

COURTNEY WOLFE

DRUMS & VOCALS

Originally from Chicago, Courtney began playing drums at age 9 and was performing live by 15. By 20, she was touring and recording with the band Tough Love, managed by Kim Fowley, known for launching the careers of Lita Ford and Joan Jett. Her recordings were produced by Fowley, Wes Beach of The Plasmatics, and Robin Zander of Cheap Trick. A fixture in the Chicago music scene, Courtney became an in-demand session drummer across genres. Later, she toured and recorded with Teardrop Records artist and Blues Hall of Fame inductee J.B. Ritchie. Now based in Kentucky, she drums and sings for the Great Wide Open Petty Tribute.

GREG HOOD

KEYBOARD & VOCALS

Greg began his musical journey in 1978, playing with bands across a variety of genres that shaped his distinctive style and sound. Over the years, he’s brought his keyboard prowess to Top 40 bands, classic rock groups, progressive rock ensembles, and even an Eagles tribute band—each experience adding depth and versatility to his playing.

With a commitment to both musical precision and emotional expression, Greg delivers rich textures and dynamic energy from behind the keys. His seamless blend of rhythm and harmony, along with his backup vocals, enhances every performance with Great Wide Open Petty Tribute.

Today, Greg brings decades of experience and a passion for musical authenticity to the stage, helping to recreate the timeless sound of Tom Petty with skill and heart.

ALEX POULTER

GUITAR & VOCALS

Alex is a rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist that brings steady grooves, rich harmonies, and a deep love for classic rock to the stage. He began playing guitar at the age of 9, drawing early inspiration from bands like The Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Eagles—artists that continue to influence his sound today.

Alex is known for his rhythm guitar work, which helps capture the layered textures of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers iconic songs. His backup vocals contribute a strong sense of pitch and blend.

In addition to his work with GREAT WIDE OPEN PETTY TRIBUTE, Alex has performed in various tribute and cover bands and he continues to play regularly in his local church band. His musicianship, experience, and enthusiasm for the music make him a key part of the group’s authentic and heartfelt performances.
